A lower menu price does not always mean a cheaper meal on a Batangas beach trip. Drinks, transport, takeaway packaging and resort access can change what you actually spend. This guide compares checked menu examples in Calatagan and explains what to confirm when considering a hotel restaurant in nearby Lian.
Prices and source pages checked on 16 October 2026. The calculations are planning examples, not meal packages or guaranteed bills. They exclude extra orders and any charges that the venue has not confirmed. Calatagan and Lian are separate municipalities: choose a stop that fits your actual route rather than making a detour for a small saving.
Quick comparison: what a food-and-coffee stop could cost
| Venue and location | Example order | Calculated total | What to check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bensan Cafe, Calatagan town centre | Burger ₱130 + Americano ₱80 | ₱210 per person | Available choices and takeaway charges |
| Bensan Cafe, Calatagan town centre | All-day breakfast ₱160 + Biscoff latte ₱150 | ₱310 per person | Selected drink size and extras |
| Theiven Café, Barangay Tanagan, Calatagan | Chicken or vegetable chapati wrap ₱240 + Americano ₱90 | ₱330 per person | Any applicable charges and current availability |
| Café Caballero, Matabungkay, Lian | Ask for a current food, drink and outside-guest quote | Confirm directly | Dining access, charges and current menu |
These examples compare specific orders rather than an observed average spend. A coffee alone is not equivalent to a full lunch, and a sharing dish should not be divided among more people than it can reasonably feed. Keep your transport and beach admission budgets separate until you calculate the complete day.
A town-centre stop: Bensan Cafe
Bensan Cafe is on the ground floor of Bensan Complex, Apacible Street, Barangay 4. Its official online store, linked by the café’s own Facebook page, lists the prices used above. It also lists baked potato at ₱140, a cake slice at ₱100 and a cheesecake slice at ₱130. Choosing a drink and snack instead of a meal produces a different budget, so decide what the stop is for before comparing totals.
The online store lists daily hours of 8:00 AM–10:00 PM and cash, GCash, bank transfer and credit-card payments. Confirm that the listed online-order payment options also apply when dining in. For takeout, the store states an additional ₱10 per food item for packaging; ask whether it applies to your chosen order.
For example, the ₱210 burger-and-coffee calculation becomes ₱220 if the stated ₱10 food-item packaging charge applies and no other charge is added. Check drink extras separately. Use the Bensan Cafe listing for its verified map and contact number.
An Indian-food option: Theiven Café
Theiven’s official menu lists chicken biryani at ₱270, curd rice at ₱180 and all-day breakfast at ₱160. The wrap-and-coffee example in the table offers another way to plan an individual order. These prices cover menu items, not transport or a beach visit.
For a group, the chicken biryani platter advertised for five costs ₱1,200. Dividing it five ways gives ₱240 per person before drinks and extras. Agree on portions and ask about the serving size; an advertised headcount does not guarantee that one platter suits every group’s appetite.
The café is in Barangay Tanagan. Check the Theiven Café map and contacts before adding it to your itinerary. Do not assume it is inside your booked resort or a short walk from your beach activity.

Considering Matabungkay in Lian?
Matabungkay Beach Hotel’s official dining page identifies Café Caballero and links its menu. The property is in Barangay Matabungkay, Lian. Its website warns that menu items and prices can change without notice.
We are not quoting a current Café Caballero meal total here: the linked menu could not be reliably rechecked during this update. Request a current menu and ask whether outside diners need a reservation, entrance payment or minimum spend. Confirm service charges and whether any required access fee is consumable. A hotel restaurant’s menu does not, by itself, establish free access to the property’s beach or facilities.
This makes it a different planning decision from a town-centre café stop. If you are already staying in Matabungkay, its location may fit your day. If you are staying in Calatagan, compare the additional journey and your return arrangements before choosing it solely for food.
Build a complete meal budget
Start with this formula: food + drinks + confirmed charges + access costs + additional transport. Count a day-pass payment once in the day’s budget. Do not add it again to every meal, and do not subtract it from a bill unless the venue explicitly says it is consumable.
For an illustration, suppose a ₱250 meal requires ₱200 of extra transport. That stop costs ₱450 before other charges. A ₱330 order already along your route would cost less in that scenario. The ₱250 and ₱200 amounts are assumptions to explain the calculation, not quoted local food or transport prices.
For group dining, multiply individual meals by the actual number ordering, then add shared items once. A five-person platter split among four costs ₱300 each at a ₱1,200 platter price; split among five, it is ₱240 each. Drinks, additional rice and other dishes still need their own lines in the budget.
Before you order or leave your resort
- Confirm access. Ask whether non-staying guests can dine and whether a booking or fee is required.
- Check the final price. Ask about service charges, packaging, upgrades and the availability of the exact menu items you chose.
- Explain dietary needs. Ask about ingredients, spice level and preparation. A dish name alone does not establish allergy suitability.
- Plan the return. Agree on transport arrangements before travelling away from your accommodation; do not assume a return vehicle will be waiting.
- Check outside-food rules. Buying takeaway does not mean your resort allows it, supplies cooking equipment or waives corkage.
Fit your food stops into the trip
Choose your beach activity or accommodation first, then compare dining stops near the journey you are actually making. Use the Calatagan dining directory for business maps and contacts. The food-crawl guide can help when planning several stops, while the Calatagan transport guide covers questions to settle before departure.
The useful budget is the one that covers your chosen order, access and journey. Treat the examples above as a starting point, confirm the live menu, and leave room in the plan for the portions and extras your group actually wants.
